As data centers increase in scale and complexity, monitoring power loads for residual and leakage currents becomes crucial to ensure electrical safety and reliability. Residual Current Monitoring (RCM) identifies these harmful currents before they pose a safety risk. It plays a vital role in safeguarding infrastructure, minimizing downtime, reducing unplanned outages, and preventing electrical hazards.
That’s why residual current sensors and monitoring features are embedded in Raritan Rack PDUs to comply with IEC-62020 safety standards and to detect residual and leakage current conditions that occur outside of their normal circuit paths within the PDU.
Benefits of RCM Measurement in Rack PDUs
RCM features are available in Raritan PX3 and PX4 Rack PDUs. If this safety feature is required for your installation, it must be specified during ordering and added during the manufacturing process.
Raritan’s RCM measurement options include:

RCM Type B Single Channel:
Single-Channel detection of AC and DC leakage current (IEC-62020 range: 0 mA to 350 mA) across all lines (1Ph or 3Ph PDUs). Applies to Raritan PX3 Rack PDU “M11” and PX4 Rack PDU “M27” model options.

RCM Type B Three Channel:
Three-Channel detection of AC and DC leakage current (IEC-62020 range: 0 mA to 350 mA). Detection on each line (3Ph PDUs). Applies to Raritan PX3 Rack PDU “M18” and PX4 Rack PDU “M28” model options.

RCM Type A
The detection of AC leakage current (IEC-62020 range: 0 mA to 350 mA) across all lines (1Ph or 3Ph PDUs). Applies to Raritan PX3 Rack PDU “M5” model options only.
RCM options are not available on every Raritan PDU model. Please contact a representative for a portfolio of options.

RCM thresholds can be manually configured to optimize management efficiency, facilitate early detection of critical conditions, and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Customizable alarms can be configured in the device’s firmware through email, SMS, and SNMP traps to enable the early detection of insulation faults and unintended electrical leakages before they escalate into critical issues.

Our PDU’s RCM features an automated, patented self-test function that verifies measurement accuracy and maintains system reliability, thereby eliminating the need for periodic manual inspections of residual and leakage current at the rack.

On PDUs equipped with an RCM-B sensor, it enables granular neutral current monitoring, measuring voltage, current, power factor, and energy consumption across all phases, including the neutral conductor, verifying whether the phases are well balanced.
Rack PDUs equipped with RCM measurement technology continuously monitor the residual current within the PDU’s wiring. If a fault is detected, an alert in the firmware along with distinct visual and audible local alarms will activate, enabling operators to take corrective action before overheating or electrical arcing occurs.
Easily integrate RCM measurement data with Data Center Infrastructure Monitoring (DCIM), Building Management System (BMS), or other software tools using protocols like SNMP, MODBUS TCP/RTU, or scripting interfaces such as JSON RPC/Lua.
