Raritan Introduces Dominion PX-4000 Series Intelligent Rack PDU for Measuring and Monitoring Energy Use of Blade Servers

Posted on April 27, 2009

—Portfolio expansion to include new high-power models with monitoring of kwh and unbalanced 3 phase loads—

SOMERSET, N.J.  (April 27, 2009) - Raritan today expanded its data center power management portfolio with the addition of the Dominion® PX-4000 Series intelligent rack power distribution unit (PDU) for monitoring the energy usage of blade servers and other high-density networking equipment.  The PX-4000 Series also is designed without remote outlet power switching to minimize blade servers from being switched off accidentally.

Blade servers, offering high performance/cost ratio and compact size benefits, are filling data center racks.  However, blades, which run hotter than traditional servers and reside in higher-density racks, have created new power and cooling dynamics in the data center - often placing greater demands on data center cooling capacity.

EPA Recognizes Raritan’s Contribution to the ENERGY STAR Data Center Infrastructure Rating Development Initiative

Posted on April 16, 2009

New York City (April 16, 2009)—Raritan was recognized today by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its participation in the Data Collection Initiative, which is part of the agency’s program to develop an ENERGY STAR rating for data center infrastructure and to help operators improve data center energy efficiency.

As a first step in developing the ENERGY STAR rating, the EPA is collecting data on energy use and operating characteristics from a large number of existing data centers—including both stand-alone facilities and data centers located in offices and other types of buildings.  The year-long data collection project is slated to be completed in June.

Raritan’s Intelligent Power Strip Supports IBM’s Systems Director Active Energy Manager V4.1, part o

Posted on November 24, 2008

SOMERSET, N.J., (November 24, 2008) - Raritan today announced that its Dominion® PX intelligent power distribution units (PDUs) support IBM® Systems Director Active Energy Manager (AEM) V4.1.

A key component of the IBM Cool Blue™ portfolio within Project Big Green, IBM Active Energy Manager provides clients with a view of the actual power used, as opposed to benchmarked power consumption, and can effectively allocate, match and cap power and thermal limits in the data center—at the system, chassis or rack level.  To help customers monitor data center power usage, AEM uses autonomic capabilities to track energy consumption across multiple platforms.
