Raritan’s dcTrack® DCIM Operations Software has been nominated for the 2014 People’s Choice Stevie® Awards for Favorite New Product! Now, if you’re unfamiliar with Raritan and dcTrack, you may be wondering what makes this DCIM solution, among so many solutions on the market, such a powerful resource for data center operators. Three reasons data center operators have had so much success with the tool are that it provides them with better capacity management and accurate asset management, and automates manual processes.

First, in a dynamic data center that is run through manual processes, it is almost impossible to understand exactly how much capacity you have at any given time, determine how to better utilize said capacity, or predict when you will run out of it.  That’s why an everyday day task like deciding on the best place to host a new IT service is extremely challenging for many data center operators. Raritan’s DCIM operations software provides these operators with accurate information (assets, power chain, network path, and cooling), and predictive analytic tools to leverage that information in order to make better and more timely decisions.

Next, many data center operators have trouble knowing what assets they have, who owns each asset, how are they connected to the network, and how their assets have been maintained.  Using spreadsheets or homegrown tools to manage server information quickly results in outdated, inaccurate, or incomplete information.  Additionally, their customers need an easy self-service method to search for information about their assets and perform functions such as power control, troubleshooting, or power chain mapping.  Raritan’s DCIM solution provides the ability to provision new systems and all their related physical and logical resources, as well as use predictive capabilities to visualize the impact of these changes.  This monitoring and management capability is especially important for those operators who rely on external service providers to perform change management functions.

Lastly, many data center operators have slow manual processes that are labor-intensive and error-prone.  Operators that rely on manual processes may be unable to meet service level agreements as they generally require facilities and IT staff to spend an extraordinary amount of time logging activities into spreadsheets. Naturally, this takes away time that can be spent making strategic decisions for the data center and improving service offerings. Raritan’s DCIM solution automates manual processes like workflow approvals and the assignment of technicians to make adds, moves, and changes. This also assists with provisioning and auditing, all while achieving operational savings and helping to improve those SLAs.
