— Raritan Dominion PX Power Distribution Units (PDUs) implemented in data center supporting CyberAgent’s Ameba, one of the largest Japanese blogging and social networking sites —

Somerset N.J. and Tokyo (February 16, 2011) – Raritan today announced that it has delivered the first shipment of Dominion® PX intelligent PDUs to CyberAgent, Inc., a full-service web media/advertising company in Japan.  CyberAgent will use the intelligent PDUs to measure and analyze detailed data on the power usage of servers supporting its growing Ameba services—the company’s flagship social networking offering with about 13 million members and 20 billion monthly page views.

Energy usage information provided by the Raritan intelligent PDUs will be used by CyberAgent to manage power more efficiently and for rack capacity planning efforts.  It will help in finding capacity in order to safely add servers to racks, as well as support long-term IT infrastructure planning for delivering high-levels of service to customers.  The total number of intelligent PDUs to be delivered to CyberAgent is expected to reach 200.

After reviewing multiple power management tools, CyberAgent selected Raritan’s Dominion PX intelligent PDUs because of their ability to collect outlet-level and IT facility-level power usage data, and their capability to turn on/off power to servers remotely.  According to CyberAgent, another key factor in choosing Dominion PX was the integrated Management Information Base (MIB) that can be displayed in graphical form by using an open-source tool.

The implementation of Dominion PX has enabled the company to receive real-time, accurate power data on servers supporting Ameba services.  Instead of reacting to limited available power, the company now has the tools to plan for power capacity expansion and rack expansion. Dominion PX’s outlet-level energy information also helps optimize the real estate in racks by finding available capacity.

“Now we know how much power is consumed by our servers,” said Hiroyuki Ishihara, at CyberAgent.  “Also we are getting more cost conscious.  We need to pay for rental racks, so we have to get current status information and plan system expansion more effectively.”

Dominion PX is expected to produce a positive return on investment (ROI) faster than other available solutions that do not offer the flexibility of anytime monitoring and remote power cycling.

Features of Dominion PX:

- Turns on/off the power to the entire PDU or each outlet through serial/IP network

- Provides power consumption data on the entire PDU or each outlet

- Issues an alert through SNMP, e-mail or Syslog, in case any threshold is exceeded

- Power usage data collected through multiple rack-mounted PDUs can be easily managed through a single Web interface
