—Raritan customer to speak on efficient power capacity management and cost savings at next week’s Teladata Technology Convergence Conference—

SOMERSET, N.J. (February 17, 2015)—Raritan, a leading provider of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and rack power distribution solutions, will be presenting with Box a case study on “How Box Tripled Data Center Capacity Without Adding a Single Cabinet.”  The case study session will be held at next week’s Teladata Technology Convergence Conference (TCC) in Santa Clara, CA.

With record numbers of new customers joining the 32 million people – and 275,000 companies – that use Box’s secure content-sharing platform, Box decided to support the growth by distributing its computing infrastructure across three facilities.  It also decided to add intelligent tools to monitor the power used by computers supporting Box’s application-intensive services and to better utilize the capacity it was paying its colocation (colo) providers. 

At TCC, Box Data Center Operations Engineer Saurabh Bhutani will discuss the move to the distributed colo data center infrastructure and how Box uses intelligent rack power distribution units (iPDUs) to track power and better utilize capacity.  As a result, Box is now able to report on power utilization for each of its 260 cabinets, and has been able to make better informed decisions about where and when applications are run.  This has led to optimal utilization of power and space, and provided more capacity headroom for its services.

The 40-minute Box case study session—which will be held on Thursday, February 26, from 10 am - 10:40 am in the Mission City Ballroom—will discuss:

• The perils of failing to monitor power utilization in a colocation facility.
• Why intelligent power distribution units were used to meter power.
• How power and space are now being used optimally as a result of metering power
• Future sustainability initiatives.
