High-Density, High-Power Rack PDUs With Sensors

Posted on July 27, 2019 by Gento

To date, the data center industry has had to become innovative as they seek to respond to the increasing demand for power. As part of their innovation best practices, forward thinking data center managers have turned to high-density and high-power rack PDUs with sensors. This technology is designed to help data centers become "green," reduce their carbon footprint, and effectively respond to the ever-increasing demand for power and density of IT equipment at the rack level.

The Statistics Support The Push For High-Density And High-Power Rack PDUs With Sensors

An IHS report regarding the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR), for rack PDUs suggests that 10kW are expected to have a unit growth of 7.5 percent across the Americas. Three-phase high power PDU units are expected to continue to grow by 7.9 percent, which is a 3.3 percent higher growth rate than their counterparts the single-phase PDU unit. Intelligent rack PDUs are also expected to grow by 8.4 percent, which is a 4.3 percent higher growth rate than non-intelligent rack PDUs. In short, high-density, high-power rack PDUs with sensors (i.e. intelligent rack solutions) are expected to out produce non-intelligent racks. The reason for the latter growth is once again due to the increasing power consumption needs of data centers across the globe.

In order to accommodate power demands, data center managers are consistently turning to three-phase rack power solutions. For example, a 4 blade server chassis that has a single rack could need more than 20kW of power. Through a three-phase rack PDU, the power demands can be met without overloading the rack or the device. Additionally, intelligent rack PDUs with sensors are capable of delivering the real-time insights needed to gain visibility into data center performance at both the server and rack level. In short, intelligent rack PDUS with high density, high power, and sensor capabilities give data center managers the key insights that they need to effectively monitor power usage, as well as environmental conditions.

Take Back Control Of Your Rack Power Infrastructure

If you want to effectively respond to the rise in power demand, coupled with the need to lower costs, reduce downtime, and lower carbon footprints, then you need to explore the innovative trends that are shaping the future of data centers. High-density and high-power rack PDUs with sensors are paving the way for data center managers to effectively gain the insights they need to effectively respond to power demands, pinpoint potential issues, and lower costs.
