From breaking ground to raising walls, more than 50 volunteers labor to get house ready for an Afghanistan war veteran’s family

SOMERSET, N.J.  (November 7, 2016) — Raritan® and Habitat for Humanity have joined forces to build an affordable house for a local family in Dover, N.J.  More than 50 employees from Raritan – a company known for its data center power distribution solutions – picked up power tools to build the three-bedroom house.

Raritan employees from every department – including software developers, product managers, and accountants – worked on the Morris Habitat house during the entire month of October.  The Raritan team also made a cash contribution to the organization.  Raritan joined many other Legrand companies in support of the corporation’s Better Communities Volunteer Month initiative to improve homes for people in need throughout North America.

“Our company is united by a common belief that together we can do things better,” says Joel Bryan, Raritan’s Director of Global Tech Support and captain of the volunteer project – who coordinated the various work teams comprised of 7 to 9 volunteers each.  “Working with Morris Habitat for Humanity provided us a wonderful way to support a great cause and support directly the communities where we live and work.  It is very rewarding to help a deserving family by building a house from the ground up.  There is a strong feeling of accomplishment and camaraderie among the volunteers.”

This is the second time that Raritan and Habitat for Humanity have partnered.  After Hurricane Sandy devastated Jersey shore communities in 2012, volunteers from Raritan helped in rebuilding homes.

Keys to the completed Morris Habitat house will be handed to the new owner—Nathalie Figueroa—in April.  Nathalie is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan and active in the Army Reserves where she serves as Military Police.  She will live in the home with her one-year-old son and her grandmother, who helps care for the son while Nathalie works and is deployed with the Army.

Families partner with Morris Habitat for Humanity to build their own homes with help from community volunteers and funding from donors.  Morris Habitat is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International and was founded in 1985.  It is a non-profit 501c3 organization.
