Data Center Operations Best Practices

Posted on February 10, 2014 by Paula Alves

Data Center operations best practices call for a strategic approach to balancing IT service delivery and cost efficiency. With the growing complexity of data centers from the demand for new service offerings and the sheer amount of physical compute, network, and storage required to provide those services, Data Center Managers are quickly realizing that manual tools, such as excel spreadsheets and Visio diagrams, are no longer an effective way to manage their Data Centers.  Instead, sophisticated data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools that measure, monitor, and provide a best practices operations framework are needed.

The Internet of Things Will Make a DCIM Solution a Necessity

By now you’re no doubt aware of the hype surrounding the Internet of Things (IoT) following this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Cisco’s CEO has estimated that its cumulative economic impact will be in the neighborhood of $19 trillion by the year 2020 (Yes, that is a 19 followed by a dozen zeroes). And as far as the cultural impact, predictions have it falling nothing short of turning what is currently considered science fiction into everyday reality. But what is IoT exactly, and how will it come to affect the data center over the next decade?

DCIM, what is it and how is it helping data center managers today in improving operational and energy efficiencies?

Posted on September 7, 2012 by Dorothy Ochs

Raritan will be presenting at the DCIE (Data Center Innovation Expo) on September 18-19 in Montreal. You are invited to join us and stop by booth #101.

When: September 18th from 2:30 PM - 3:45 PM

Location: Room 514C

Title: DCIM, what is it and how is it helping data center managers today in improving operational and energy efficiencies?

Abstract: There has been a lot of buzz, hype, and confusion around DCIM (data center infrastructure management) software that has been created by both vendors and industry analysts in the past year. In this session you will learn how data center managers like yourself are actually filtering out this hype and confusion and are using DCIM to drive data center operational excellence. Once such scenario is to automate existing manual processes for managing moves, adds and changes (MACs). Another scenario enables managers to make better informed decisions using intelligence built into DCIM to reduce cooling energy costs. Both examples will be supported with real-world ROIs.
