—Raritan and Innovative Research Help Data Centers Become More Energy Efficient by Three-Dimensional Simulation of Airflow and Temperature Distribution—

SOMERSET, N.J. (October 19, 2009) – Raritan Inc.— a leader in data center infrastructure and power management solutions—today announced that information gathered and stored in its data center asset management solution, dcTrack™, can now be imported easily into the industry’s leading 3-D simulation tool based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD)—Innovative Research’s TileFlow™.

By having 3-D simulation capability for airflow and temperature distribution in data centers, companies can obtain a clearer picture of their data center’s cooling and energy use and help identify areas for energy conservation and operations improvement.

As a result of a strategic technology partnership between Raritan and Innovative Research, dcTrack now includes an easy-to-use export feature that will enable users to generate sophisticated three-dimensional CFD models of their data centers quickly, and regularly, by leveraging the wealth of data stored in the dcTrack database—which includes asset model data, exact rack unit positioning of assets, and real-time power consumption information.

According to Khaled Nassoura, general manager of the Raritan’s green data center initiative, such analytical models that calculate and display 3-D airflow patterns and temperature distribution are very useful for managing data centers.  “We are truly excited about our technology partnership with Innovative Research and how we are able to leverage TileFlow’s 3-D simulation capabilities to help us advance our green data center initiative and help empower our customers to improve their data center asset utilization and IT budgets,” said Nassoura.  “Our combined efforts will help customers, for example, to identify hot spots and how best to resolve them in order to protect equipment and reduce costs.”

“Our collaboration will help to overcome some of the cooling and energy challenges in data centers, which are constantly changing with new layout and equipment,” said Dr. Suhas Patankar, President of Innovative Research.  “The ability to import dcTrack data into our simulation product TileFlow will greatly reduce the manual effort that is usually required in surveying data center assets and feeding the relevant information to TileFlow. As a result, customers can start generating models quickly and focus on resolving cooling problems and saving energy.”

Part of Raritan’s green data center solution portfolio, dcTrack helps data centers visualize and automate the tracking and management of IT and facility systems.  dcTrack maintains accurate, real-time views and granular details of every element and their connections across the entire data center—including servers, networking and facilities elements.  It also provides up-to-the-minute views of a data center’s power consumption, heat dissipation, raised floor space and rack elevations.
