Raritan Introduces Smart Data Center Rack Controller for Environment, Security, Energy, and Electronic Asset Management

Posted on September 27, 2011

SOMERSET, N.J. (September 27, 2011)—Raritan today announced the Smart Rack Controller (EMX) that provides, in one place, key information on data center operations collected from many types of sensors—including temperature, humidity, airflow, air pressure, smoke, water, and contact closure—from cameras, and from Raritan’s just-introduced intelligent, electronic asset tracking solution.

At a glance, operators can see if their data center is working at optimal temperature, monitor humidity and airflow in racks, locate a server’s exact location, and see live views of the data center.  They can detect when a cabinet door is opened, see who has entered the data center, and be alerted if there is a problem—such as smoke or a security breach.

Raritan Introduces First-of-its-Kind Intelligent Asset Tags and Sensors to Keep Track of Data Center Servers and Supporting IT Infrastructure

Posted on August 29, 2011

—Accurate, automated, real-time inventory; helps data centers better understand exactly what they have and where it’s located—

SOMERSET, N.J. (August 29, 2011)—Raritan today announced the general availability of the first intelligent Asset Management Tag and Sensor solution for improving data center asset management by providing accurate, real-time information on all IT assets and their locations.

With a large number of IT devices and a great variety of equipment, data center moves, adds, and changes are challenging.  Accurate records on where servers are located in racks and the power chain associated with servers are not always available.  In fact, in larger data centers up to 25 percent of IT assets can go missing because of difficulty tracking IT assets.  This translates into underutilized rack space and capacity, contributes to ghost servers, as well as wasted time locating equipment.
