Lenovo and Raritan Develop KVM-over-IP-Based Remote Server Management Solutions

-- Solutions Simplify Server Management for IT Organizations --

BEIJING, and SOMERSET, N.J. (October 30, 2006) - Lenovo and Raritan today announced remote server management solutions to help enterprise customers in China manage their servers. The solutions -- which Lenovo plans to add to its servers as standard components -- are designed to help IT organizations reach out and manage servers securely from anywhere using the Internet, helping to expedite and simplify server management.

Lenovo -- an international technology company formed as a result of the acquisition of the IBM Personal Computing Division by the Lenovo Group -- and Raritan, a leading provider of solutions to simplify IT operations, began working in 2004 to meet the growing need in China for cost-effective solutions that simplify server management.

Ideal for managing data centers and server rooms -- as well as distributed multinational IT infrastructures -- the embedded remote solutions enable IT personnel to manage conveniently and securely thousands of servers and IT devices located anywhere in the world over an IP connection. Remote users can perform all server configuration and management tasks from the convenience of their desktops.

The Lenovo-branded remote management solutions are based on Raritans advanced eRIC express server management PCI card and its ASMI G4 management module, which is compliant with Intels Advanced System Management Interface (ASMI). They provide servers high-quality KVM-over-IP management capabilities with excellent screen redirection, remote power management and virtual media support.

We are developing products using the name Lenovo, through cooperation with Raritan, so that customers can realize the benefits of KVM-over-IP manageability based on the eRIC express card and ASMI G4 module, said Lenovo Product Development Associate Manager Qi-jie Lee. As a result of our partnership, we are delivering to our customers high-standard KVM solutions to help them rapidly deploy and manage their IT assets.

It has been a pleasure working with Lenovo to develop these next-generation KVM management solutions, said Raritans Asia-Pacific Vice President Chris McPherson. To provide customers more powerful solutions that simplify IT management and reduce IT costs is the common goal of both companies. Raritan will continue working with Lenovo in order to advance IT management technologies, meet the management needs of increasingly sophisticated IT infrastructures, and maintain leadership in IT equipment solutions in the Chinese market.

About eRIC express and ASMI G4 module
The eRIC express card enables full remote management of a server in all BIOS states. In addition, the card makes it possible to switch systems on and off remotely and to perform cold resets. The cards built-in virtual media capability provides a virtual floppy drive for remote BIOS updates and for system start-ups using an emergency disk, a USB mass storage device or CD/DVD drive. eRIC express delivers optimal security; with all data sent between the card and the user encoded. In addition, no special client software is needed in order to use the management solutions, and any browser can be used. The eRIC card supports Intels IPMI 2.0 standard.

The ASMI G4 remote management module provides the same capabilities as the eRIC express card, enabling servers with ASMI-compliant motherboards to be remotely managed from anywhere.
