SOMERSET, N.J. (October 27, 2006) - Raritan, a leading provider of solutions to simplify IT operations, has been recognized by VARBusiness magazine for outstanding achievement in technology innovation.
Raritan’s KIRA™100 system on a chip was selected the winner of the Whitebox Components category of VARBusiness’ Tech Innovators award competition. The KIRA100 was among nearly 700 entries submitted in 14 technology categories.
In addition, VARBusiness editors have named Swen Anderson, Raritan’s CTO-Access Products Division, a semi-finalist for the magazine’s ‘Technologist of the Year’ award. Anderson led the team that developed the KIRA100.
KIRA100 is the industry’s first KVM switch on a single chip that combines KVM-over-IP technology with key platform manageability methods, including IPMI. The KIRA100 brings to the motherboard the advanced remote server management capabilities found in today’s digital KVM-over-IP switches, which offer secure remote access and control to IT equipment from anywhere in the world over standard IP networks. The chip also provides virtual media support.
VARBusiness magazine, which covers the business of technology integration, honored Raritan at an awards ceremony held this week in Huntington Beach, Calif. Raritan also will be recognized in the December 4th VARBusiness Tech Innovators issue. The 2006 VARBusiness Tech Innovator awards were judged by a panel of solution-provider executives and VARBusiness editors. According to the magazine, “the judges scored the products based on five main points -- usefulness, how new and/or improved the product is, where it sits on the price/performance, revenue potential and the ‘coolness’ factor.”
“Innovations like what we’ve seen from Raritan demonstrate the vibrancy and vitality of the industry,” says VARBusiness Editor Lawrence M. Walsh. “They represent breakthroughs that will benefit our solution-provider readers and, in turn, the users of technology.”
“It is a great honor to have Raritan recognized by such an influential and prestigious magazine,” said Rasul Damji, Vice President of Product Operations. “The KIRA100 breakthrough demonstrates Raritan’s unwavering focus on technology innovation to help customers minimize server downtime and increase IT productivity. The KIRA100 is a key component for creating next-generation solutions and fully automated and centralized IT management infrastructures.”
For end customers, the high-performance KIRA100 chip enables critical server management functions, such as operating system installation, BIOS upgrade and power cycling, to be done remotely. For service providers and resellers, the remote manageability that the KIRA100 adds to servers enables news value-added services to be offered to customers.
About KIRA100
The KIRA100 BMC is a fully integrated system-on-a-chip microprocessor, which incorporates all the necessary function blocks and interfaces to provide a complete and cost-effective remote management solution that fits all server management architectures. It is equipped with a media co-processor to accelerate video processing and deliver higher-quality video resolutions, and a comprehensive set of system and peripheral functions that are useful in a variety of remote management applications.
The chip provides virtual media support that covers a broad range of mass storage emulation variations -- including virtual-floppy emulation, CD/DVD-drive emulation and, even, direct mass-storage redirection. Additionally, it offers advanced features to prevent downtime, such as health management consisting of IPMI2.0-based server hardware monitoring and power management. Because it is integrated directly on a server motherboard, the KIRA100 can also pick up signals from discrete components. These signals provide valuable performance information, such as the status of memory or CPU heat. For more information on the KIRA100, please visit www.raritan.com/embedded.
