Raritan Expands Service Management Portfolio for Simplifying IT Operations

-- New Access Management Appliance; Raritan First to Offer Integrated In-Band and Out-of-Band Access, and IPMI-based Power Cycling, on a Centralized Appliance --

SOMERSET, N.J., and LAS VEGAS (May 2, 2006) - Raritan - a leading provider of solutions to simplify IT operations - today expanded its service management portfolio to include more powerful tools to monitor IT equipment health and remediate problems quickly and cost effectively.  The company has added a new model to its centralized access gateway appliance family -- CommandCenter® Secure Gateway (CC-SG) -- and added enhancements to its multi-function monitoring and management appliance -- CommandCenter NOC (CC-NOC).

Integration enhancements were made so that both appliance families are able to work together seamlessly – delivering even more value to IT organizations.  A company, for example, that uses Raritan's CC-NOC appliance to monitor the health and security of its IT equipment, can use CC-SG to expedite the repair of a server or device.  An e-mail alert notification sent from a CC-NOC includes an embedded link, allowing an administrator to access the device in distress in a single click -- greatly improving the Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).  With a single sign-on and integrated authentication and authorization, users are able to move between their management systems easily to gain the information needed to resolve incidents quickly.

In addition, should users need to reboot servers to get services back online quickly, they can leverage CC-SG's built-in support for IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) and power cycle servers using this industry-standard interface -- which is embedded in servers by major manufacturers.

To improve security and provide audit trails for compliance reporting, Raritan has added in-band network access to CC-SG.  From CC-SG's centralized management dashboard, users can use traditional in-band network-access tools – including Windows Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), Windows Terminal Server, Secure Shell (SSH) and Virtual Network Computing (VNC) -- should the operating system be up and running.  If users need BIOS-level access for mission-critical troubleshooting and remediation, they can, from the same dashboard, connect via out-of-band direct access to the device through KVM- and serial-over-IP-based networks.

"We offer customers simple, cost-effective and secure tools to increase service availability and performance, improve the productivity of their staffs and reduce security risks," said Sev Onyshkevych, Raritan’s Vice President of Marketing.  "IT organizations can now pinpoint potential problems before they have an impact, and fix them more quickly, easily and cost effectively using a single integrated solution.  Our management appliances -- whether standing alone or working together -- help customers identify, diagnose and resolve problems rapidly, such as failed e-mail systems, server outages and security breaches."

New CommandCenter Secure Gateway Release Version 3.0
Raritan's new CC-SG Model V1 provides the same centralized management features, intuitive dashboard and integrated capabilities that medium and large enterprise companies have come to rely upon from Raritan.  CC-SG Model V1 is designed to work with Raritan's Dominion® Series KVM- and serial-over IP products, Paragon II KVM switches, as well as the CC-NOC family of monitoring and management appliances.  The new appliance includes new software -- CC-SG version 3.0, which will also be available as an upgrade for users of the current CC-SG hardware.  For more information on CC-SG version 3.0 enhancements, go to www.raritan.com/products/centralized-management/ccsg.

CC-NOC – Centralized Network, Systems, Application, Security Management
Through a comprehensive dashboard accessed using virtually any Internet browser, Raritan's CC-NOC management appliances provide fault and performance data and alerts on network, systems and applications.  In addition, they identify and inventory hardware and software assets, as well as monitor for security vulnerabilities and intrusions.  CC-NOC V 5.2 software enhancements -- available on all models including the CC-NOC 100, 250 and 2500 series -- include:

  • Integration with CC-SG version 3.0 – Single sign on and click through via embedded links for mission-critical in- and out-of-band access; improving the incident management process and reducing MTTR.
  • Historical and real-time equipment inventory reports.
  • Ability to configure performance thresholds at the device level, as well as by category basis.  Organizations can also set threshold limits that automatically trigger with changing business conditions.
  • On-demand discovery of a single IP address.

CC-NOC Appliance at Work – on Land and Sea
Upstream Petroleum – whose business is designing, mounting, drilling, and managing oil rigs throughout the Asia-Pacific region -- chose Raritan's CC-NOC to manage the company's IT equipment, including equipment at very remote locations, ranging from exploration sites to floating oil rigs.  In addition, Upstream's IT equipment can be found on a number of large ships, so its IT assets are literally "on the move."  In the past, the only effective way for Upstream to administer its IT infrastructure of LANs, servers and other equipment was through site visits, often requiring an $8,000 helicopter ride to remote locations.  Plus, there was no visibility to its equipment's health until someone reported a problem.

When Raritan's CC-NOC was installed on Upstream's network, it immediately began to locate and inventory the company's desktops, servers, network switches, printers, routers and other equipment.  More than 250 devices were found -- devices on ships and oil rigs appeared on CC-NOC's dashboard just as quickly as those down the hall.  Upstream now has a centralized, real-time view of the company's IT operations and health, and as a result is eliminating expensive site visits and costly equipment downtime.

Pricing and Availability
The plug-and-play CC-NOC 5.2 and CC-SG Model V1 appliances are now available for order worldwide.  CC-NOC pricing starts at $5,995 (U. S. List Price) and CC-SG starts at $5,995 (U. S. List Price).  More on both products can be found at http://www.integratedcontrolandmanagement.com/index.aspx?afftid=4237.
