Raritan Launches Industry's First Intelligent KVM Drawer

Raritan Launches Industry's First Intelligent KVM Drawer

-- Raritan Computer, Inc. --

Las Vegas, (November 18, 2002)—Raritan, the leading provider of KVM and remote management solutions for access and control of servers and other network devices, today unveiled the industry's first KVM drawer with integrated KVM switching and Category 5 UTP cable functionality. The KVM drawer integrates Raritan's Z-Series™ and Paragon KVM solutions using industry standard UTP cabling to connect servers up to 1000 feet away.

"Our new KVM drawer enables more efficient rack space management and offers expanded functionality," said Herman Chan, director, product management, Raritan. "We revolutionized the enterprise segment of the KVM market two years ago when we introduced Cat5 Simplicity™. This product is yet another example of how Raritan brings added convenience to our customers with more connectivity options."

Three models will be available to support multiple data center configurations:

  • A KVM drawer with a 15-inch flat panel display, keyboard, and touch pad mouse in a 1U rack mount form factor, featuring an integrated Raritan Z-Series receiver that enables control of up to 42 servers via industry standard UTP cabling
  • A KVM drawer with a 15-inch flat panel display, keyboard, and touch pad mouse in a 1U rack mount form factor, featuring an integrated Paragon User Station
  • A base model KVM drawer with a 15-inch flat panel display, keyboard, and touch pad mouse in a 1U rack mount form factor

Raritan's innovative Z-Series enables selection and control of up to 42 servers without consuming precious rack space ("zero-U"). The Z-Series reduces cable clutter by replacing traditional server-to-switch connections using coaxial cable with a UTP cable-based, chain-like, server-to-server architecture through the Z-Series Computer Interface Modules (Z-CIMs). One Z-CIM is connected to each server to transmit the keyboard, video, and mouse signals to the Z-Series receiver resident in the KVM drawer.

Paragon is the award-winning, KVM-based solution that gives IT professionals the power to access and control servers and other network devices any way, anytime, from anywhere they want. Paragon is the most reliable, most flexible, and most secure enterprise-class KVM solution on the market that offers Cat5 Simplicity™.

The KVM Drawer will be available in January with suggested retail prices starting at $2,500.
